Create on demand folder requested by sieve filter
(patch for Cyrus)

Overview

The autosievefolder patch is a simple patch that was originally written having in mind the automatic creation of the INBOX.Junk folder, by cyrus, whenever a sieve filter requests it (e.g. a SPAM filter).

It was created with the intention to simplify in a way the installation of a SPAM filter (see avelsieve), and to protect users from the accidental removal of the Junk folder.

In its current form it also allows the "on demand" creation of any folder requested by a sieve filter, through the "fileinto" action, as long as the requested folder is an INBOX subfolder of the user that owns the sieve script. The operation of the autosievefolder is controlled by the following two options in imapd.conf: anysievefolder and autosievefolders.

Before you download and install the autoSieveFolder patch read README.autosievefolder.
The patch may be downloaded from email.uoa.gr download site.

Installation instructions

• Download the latest autoSieveFolder patch for your Cyrus.
• Patch cyrus software.
• Check the following options of the imapd.conf file.
  • anysievefolder : It must be "yes" in order to permit the autocreation of any INBOX subfolder requested by a sieve filter, through the "fileinto" action. (default = no)
  • autosievefolders : It is a "|" separated list of subfolders of INBOX that will be automatically created, if requested by a sieve filter, through the "fileinto" action. (default = null)
    i.e. autosievefolders: Junk | Spam
  • WARNING: anysievefolder, takes precedence over autosievefolders . Which means that if anysievefolder is set to "yes", cyrus will create any INBOX subfolder requested, no-matter what the value of autosievefolders is.

Things to be done are :

• Support cyrus wildcards in the autosievefolders option.
